Some golf courses leave an impression not just with the challenge they present, but with the atmosphere they create. Myrtle Beach is home to a wide range of layouts that captivate players with scenic beauty beyond the beach—from tree-lined fairways and rolling terrain to tranquil lakes and thoughtfully crafted course design. It’s a destination where every round offers something memorable.
If you enjoy complementing visuals with compelling design, here are five of the Myrtle Beach area’s prettiest two-hole stretches:
Pawleys Plantation Golf Club – Holes 16 & 17
There were a couple of contenders here, but the par 4 16th and par 3 17th win out. As you approach the corner of the dogleg left 16th, you’re treated to a panoramic view of the salt marsh that defines Pawleys’ iconic back nine. It’s a stunning scene, and the 17th, which plays across the marsh, is just as pretty (and challenging). (Pawleys Plantation 16th top, 17th right from our Instagram Account)
Tidewater Golf Club – Holes 3 & 4
Tidewater is one of South Carolina’s most visually striking layouts, so picking just one two-hole stretch was tough. But holes 3 and 4 take the crown. As you approach the third tee, Cherry Grove comes into view for the first time and the cell phone cameras come out. The fourth hole, a gentle dogleg left, is on the short list of Myrtle Beach’s best par 4s and Cherry Grove is in play every step of the way.
Grande Dunes Resort Club – Holes 14 & 15
Grande Dunes is home to a great layout, and its Intracoastal Waterway views further elevate the experience. The vista from an elevated tee box overlooking the par 3 14th green alone is enough to earn a spot on this list, and it’s followed by the par 4 15th which also plays along the waterway. Glen Dornoch – Holes 17 & 18
No Myrtle Beach course brings you closer to the Intracoastal than Glen Dornoch. The par 3 17th offers the always pleasant combination of a chance to score and beauty, while the 18th, a par 4, brings you to the water’s edge. How close are you to the water? You could pitch the ball onto a passing boat (but we don’t recommend trying!).
Rivers Edge – Holes 17 & 18
The closing stretch at Rivers Edge plays along the Shallotte River and is as dramatic as it is beautiful. The par 5 17th, with its dual fairway, is reachable in two, but anything short and right is swallowed by the river. The 18th, a short dogleg right par 4 (just 350 yards from the whites), tempts you to cut the corner, but again, the Shallotte River looms. Risk, meet reward. Whether you’re admiring the marsh Pawleys Plantation, the Intracoastal views at Grande Dunes, or the drama of Rivers Edge, pack your camera if you are playing these courses.
